St. Patrick's Day Parade in Kansas City

In 1973 a group of friends meeting for a quick (or otherwise) drink and a bit of conversation at Hogerty's Cocktail Lounge in downtown Kansas City decided a Parade downtown was just what the City needed; and so it began again. ~~KC St. Patrick's Day Parade Facebook Page

Now a second generation of Kansas Citians enjoy and celebrate growing up with the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade.

"On St. Patrick's Day, the rainbow ends in Westport

On Saturday, March 17th, Westport will transform into a sea of emerald green as the Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade prepares to move throughout Midtown."

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th each year. The celebration of St. Patrick's Day is the religious feast day of St. Patrick, as well as the anniversary of his death in the fifth century, and falls within the Christian Lent. It has been celebrated by the Irish for over 1,000 years. Traditionally, Irish families attended a church service on the morning of March 17th, then held a feast during the afternoon.

Mike Murphy helped make St. Patrick’s Day in Kansas City

Mike Murphy helped make St. Patrick’s Day in Kansas City a special holiday. From a cheery little walk around the block of a downtown bar, the Parade turned into the largest one- day celebration in the city. Mike was proud of the Irish. We are proud of him. He was a legendary broadcaster, a friendly man and as Mike would always say of all his friends, “he’s a pal!” Mike you will always be our pal. Our prayers go out to your family and your many friends. Thank you for all you did for us. As the Irish blessing says, “May God hold you in the palm of his hand”.
